ABOUT

Tom Pitts is a multi-award-winning street and documentary photographer based in Cheltenham, UK, and a Hasselblad Master, having won the Street Photography category of the 2023 Hasselblad Masters from over 85,000 global entrants. He is a Pro Member of The Raw Society and won first place in the Single Image category at the 2025 Dublin Street Photography Festival, judged by Martin Parr, Melissa O'Shaughnessy, and Rammy Narula. His ongoing long-term projects include documentary work in Istanbul, Kolkata, and Lisbon, alongside 'Under Starters Orders,' a series on Cheltenham Racecourse published in The Raw Society Magazine.

Initially photography was a means of documenting his life and travels with his wife and young family. Given the strict privacy laws in the country he was living in, he was unable to explore street photography where he lived at the time. However, this changed when Tom moved to London in 2020, and once the Covid pandemic had subsided he was able to start practising street and documentary photography from 2022 after he moved to Cheltenham.

Since then, Tom has pursued photography with a passion. Focusing on long term projects in locations such as Istanbul and Kolkata, and more locally in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire by documenting the horse racing at Cheltenham Racecourse. Tom’s ongoing project at Cheltenham Racecourse titled ‘Under Starters Orders’ was recently published in The Raw Society Magazine Issue 4.
